Breath of life

We all breathe in and we all breathe out and that’s just the way we roll. But is the quality of every breath we take equal and why is diaphragmatic breathing such a big deal?

Yes, yes I know we are suppose to breath deep into our bellies and with our diaphragm and I’ve learned all about “fight or flight” breathing as appose
to “rest and recuperation” breathing but I still didn’t really UNDERSTAND  what it was all about.

[ltr]One of my multiple philosophical questions that I never had a decent answer to was why does a humans shoulders always go up and everything always goes down toward gravity?  Now that I have the answer, which I will share with you shortly, it seem SO obvious, but why have I never read about it anywhere or none of my teachers ever mentioned it? [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]So here comes the ultimate reveal to the question, Why does our shoulders rise and get tight while everything else, posture, head, belly and bum sag down and give in to the might of gravity? BREATHING ,  there is your answer. [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]Let me explain. [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]When we experience tension like slamming on your breaks in traffic to avoid an accident, saving a child from running onto a busy road or having a million and one thoughts go through your head about work, dinner, house chores, kids, family ect ect, we go in to mini panic mode. [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]Panic mode to our brains means my body needs more oxygen URGENTLY!!! So I, the brain need to send messages to the body prepare for more oxygen intake, and the easiest way to achieve that is to take the pressure of the breathing muscle by lifting the ribcage up. [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]And what do we use to lift the ribcage up of our diaphragm? Yup you guessed it our neck and shoulder muscles!!!  [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]After the panic is over we are suppose to recover, lower the shoulders and continue in a peaceful manner with our rest and recuperation slow breathing.  But herein lies our modern society’s fate. [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]We don’t just experience little moments of panic here and there for most of us LIFE is one big panic session so we actually NEVER come out of our fight or flight breathing pattern, we ALWAYS breathe as if our lives are on the line and our poor neck and shoulders never gets a rest. [/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]So, by becoming actively aware of how and where you are breathing from you are able to change your posture from should and neck focused to core or belly focused and you can change the mind of your mind. [/ltr]
